When does the fuel light come on?

Just wondering, Ive had the lib now for a year and i still havent seen any fuel light... do i have to run out of petrol to tell if it works...lol
some models do have them, some dont, if you do and the light comes on.. usually means u have aroud 8-10 litres left.. not sure exactly how much..
