i have a 1995 GX Liberty and have removed the throttle position sensor and now the car will start but not run, once you take ya foot off of the gas the revs drop and it just dies a quick death...

can anyone tell me how to put the sensor back in correctly or suggest what i am doing wrong

It needs to be set perfectly with a multimeter and feeler guages... did u get another one or are u still trying to fit the old one? Is the car at Mikes?

Actually i can only help if the method for setting it is the same on ALL ej22s. My manual only goes up to 1994 libs for some reason. If the method is different then i would be wasting my time.

Hi Mate
With engine off, you need to disconnect the TPS connector located at the throttle body.Measure and record resistance between terminals 2 and 3
with throttle fully closed.Measure and record resistance between terminals 2 and 4 with throttle fully closed , then with throttle fully open

terms 2/3 sould be 12000 and same for 2/4
Throttle fully closed between 10,000 and 12 000.
Throttle fully open between 3000 /5000.
i dont know the feeler guage setting

Aparently it only has 3 wires coming out of it. My ej22 has 4. So they are different.

sounding like it would be better just to replace the whole lot easier not cheaper though

hey all

ok i have a throttle sensor with only 3 wires going into it... can someone tell me what messurements and how it is done

Put the TPS back on correctly, turn on the key and measure the voltage at the centre wire by backprobing with the connector plugged in. Rotate the TPS until it shows 0.4v. If there is no voltage present then check the top wire for voltage, it should have 5v when the key is on.

The 4th wire on a gen 1 is the idle switch, gen 2 does not use this and the polarity is also reversed on gen 2.

Ok I have done all that and got the correct readings , still wont sit and Idle and has error code's 32 and 31, what are they please.

31 Throttle Position Sensor... 32 is Oxygen Sensor.

Manual does state to resolve the lowest number first but in my experience the O2 sennsor is a relatively common fault. I have already gone through 2 of them in a year.

this is the throttle sensor that mike just got for the car.... i am not happy as i need the car and am having to rely on others to get me around and i don't like to be a burdon on others... it is starting to seem that this car is one problem after the other

But seriously. You'll love it again once you've overcome this one, its all a learning curve. If it happens again or to somebody elses car, you'll be able to fix it instantly

Does it have 5 volts at the red wire at the TPS?

Yes there is 5 volts there.

Who would like to kick me in the but ,, the Subi runs sweet as now , I didnt notice that I had knocked of one of the vacume hoses and of course you know how engines hate that .
Mind you had I fixed it properly then the Lib wouldnt have a nice set of RS mags on it now, Deb took it down to Swan Subaru this morning and they spotted the hose and then she went in to their showroom and bought the mags , looks heaps better than the crappy wheel covers that were on there .
