codes...how to read them

what does it mean when you get
1 long flash followed by 2 short ones?

i just had a read but it was a US site....it said starter switch....if thats right then my ignition is not working with the loom i got so i,ll need the ignition that matchs my loom................i,m trying my best to sort this out

Code for what engine? They do differ between engine ECU's, like when its a 4 plug or 3 plug ECU as well..

Ahh, I did just realise that from your other post in this section.
It comes up as you say - 12 for Starter switch.
It could be a connector or plug problem, and it confuses the ECU.
Check all the grounds(negitives) are made, especially the engine and ECU ones.

isnt code 12 normal and is basically saying it is in "start position" but the motor isnt winding over, as soon as the motor turns over and or starts it goes out?

What Subaman said. Code 12 is good. Basically saying ECU is ready to start the engine.

It will read 12 while ever the igniton is to ON and the motor is not cranking or running
