Weber on ea81

Post by 555Ron » Thu Jan 29, 2015 8:46 am

I have a new Weber 32/36 DGAV on an EA81. On start it is idling very high... About 2000rpm. Is there a Weber expert who can tell me the settings to start from for their setup so the car will idle. I believe it may be running too lean. The primary butterfly may be open too far too... Seems like it is almost 1/8th open.

I'm in Maitland if there is anyone around the area that would be willing to help out...

I know it's simple but, have you tried blipping the throttle after you start it? On my one with electric choke it idles real high after starting until you blip the throttle and it clicks down a notch on the choke mechanism. If the primary butterfly is open maybe your idle speed screw is wound right in?

Mine lasted less than 1 year before the choke started playing up, kicking in at the wrong times when accelerating, holding the throttle open when past half way, not returning to idle at the lights (had to blip the throttle every time I stopped to bring the idle down) It was very frustrating when it would redline between gears :???:
Will it ever end!?

Have you set it up properly? The first part says how:

If you are getting pinging, make sure there are no vac leaks from anywhere and check your timing. A quick fix is to retard the timing, but it will slow you down. You might need the carb rejetted.

Sounds like the idle jet is blocked.
It's a brass screw on the throttle side about midway up the Carby.
There's a fine jet on the end of this. Plus make sure the o'ring still intact.
Another check is for manifold leaks.
I've had 2 webbers on an EA81,an early 2l Cortina and a late emissions Escort carb, and still have a Holley copy on another car and all have run well with Std jetting and no choke. The early carb is still on.
The late Carby came off only because the anti stall diaphragm started leaking and was flooding the engine.
