Brumby thermo fan

Post by MuZ » Mon Sep 02, 2013 5:16 pm

Just wondering if anyone knows at what temp the thermo in the brumbys kicks in, the other day the car got to just above the half way line on the temp gauge and the fan still hadn't started, in fact I've never seen it run. Would it or the sender be faulty or has the car just not gotten hot enough?

Just above half.

Sender switches at 92 degrees C.

Probably the sender in the bottom of the radiator (on the drivers side) has a single yellow wire coming from it. My fan in the ute used to kick in...until I swapped engines and radiator and forgot to switch over the thermo switch, now I can't be bothered draining the rad just to change it :(
Will it ever end!?

You can get some different switch temps I think, maybe a newie. I'm not happy where one Brumby temp fans come on, the other is just a bit over half. Reckon a newer way of control is better - you've got ebays aquarium unis at about 14 bucks each right up to the enginewatchdog TM4 .....

From memory an earth wire attached to a toggle switch, spliced into the single yellow wire will give you control of when the thermo comes on :).

Those temp switches give trouble a fair bit. Good way to check that your wiring/ relay/ thermofan are all in working order is to just take the yellow wire off the sender and earth it out ( touch it on the closest metal component that it will reach) and if your thermo fan kicks in then it is most likely going to be your sender. Also check to see that the little earth loop is connected onto the top of the radiator to your radiator support. Shouldn't need it but have seen the radiator not be earthed before because rubber mounted.
See how you go.

I have hooked up a manual on switch for a few radiators now. Found not to add a relay the manual switch inside - got a bit warm !

Mine has dual fans for air con, the first comes on after engine has warmed up, just under half on temp, the second one usually kicks in when the temp gets a bit above half way... :)

P.S. - There is also a relay that controls all the fans, Air con etc. on the Drivers side that can fail / burn out - you should check it also to make sure its working ... ;)

Cheers, Bantum ...
