earth to starter

Hi all, just replaces both front bearings on my 92 brumby. Went to start and it would only click. Lifted the bonnet and noticed that the earth wire that is connected to the car under where the spare tyre lives isn't connected to anything. Does this go to the starter ???? Please help
Time to add one of these ...

Starter Relay ...
This should fix any issues that you have + make sure that you use the right gauge wire ...

G'day, yeah, it goes to the starter or one of the bell housing bolts close by. Its not too critical where it goes as long as it is clean and tight. It is critical for the starter to operate.

WHOAH! Which wire ? There is a fat black one that goes between the box housing and the ody beneath the spare on Brumbies ??

Just got her going. After doing a few fist pumps in excitement, I noticed I didn't put the guard in between the hub and bearings when I replaced the bearings
Back to work I go.

G'day, not sure specifically about Brumbies, but there is two ways to earth the car properly.
1- The negative terminal has a large cable that goes from the battery to the block, and then a smaller one runs from the block to the body.
2 - The Large cable goes to the block as above, and a second smaller lead goes directly from the battery to the chassis. I think that is the standard Subaru way thinking about my L's.
Basically you must have a large wire to the block to handle the starter currents (200 amps or so), the smaller one carries the current for the lights, heater, etc, around 40 amps or so. Hope that makes sense and helps.

I wasn't aware they had separate body and chassis? Aren't they monocoque construction?
