Hey Fella's.

Had a bit of a moment on the way back from work today in the Vortex. As I was pulling off from an intersection the motor started misfiring really bad and strangely the tacho went haywire. I cannot remember the engine light coming on. I pulled up and let it idle for about 30 seconds, took off again and it didn't miss a beat. Prior to this I've also had two strange occurrences recently with it suddenly dropping out on idle when Its cold. Being a 1986 model it has the 3 plug ecu which doesn't use an ignition map, just the weights in the dizzy and the vac diaphragm. Given the behaviour of the tacho Im lead to believe that I might be on the edge of an ignition component crapping the bed on me. Any idea's on what to have a look at?

dodgy ? that is right up the fusible links alley - corrosion/breaking up due to age ?

Yeah, gotta be corrosion, just had some cold wet days here in perth so I might just go thru it all tomorrow and make sure its all clean and dry.

I remember reading about the jumping tacho syndrome on USMB, but since they changed the board they use I can't find it

I do remember it was tied to the ignition module in the dizzy.

the blue one in the 20 amp range is what has been suggested by most people

I use the 30 amp ones as thats what I found under the bonnet of a ford at the wreckers
