hi , wonder if any one can help, my 94 rs turbo engine in my l series has just developed a fault. it randomly cuts out, no warning , no engine check light. it generally stays off for between 2 to 30 seconds and starts again and all is fine, was doing it every 100 ks or so but that is now down to about 10 ks , please any ideas, don't really know where to start , thinking maybe fuel pump but really not sure , cheers for any help

Cuts out slowly would be fuel pump, or pump relay etc.

Dead cut, like turning off the key, could be anything.

Which way does it cut out? Fast or slow?

if the pump is within belting distance, when it won't start, give pump body a gentle whack and see if it kicks into life while someone cranks for you - within the prime time off ignition on befor power to pump cuts off again.

it cuts out suddenly just like the ignition has been switched , so probably not fuel pump then , maybe its an ignition fault???

Coil packs?

The OMEs are notorious for presenting all sorts of bugs. The Bosch upgrade is a tried and tested fix.

Mine used cut at random only above 80kph, and only in the summer. New coil packs fixed it.

Check for any loose connections in the engine bay or under the dash.

Has anything been done recently to the car and possibly disturbed something?

Start the car and let it idle while you wriggle every plug and connector you can find under the bonnet and dash, if it cut's you've found the culprit.

Also check the fuel pump connections.

You could have loosened an earth point somewhere.. very hard to know how the conversion was done??
