Hard to select reverse in my Brumby

Hi guys,
I hope you can help, I am finding it hard to get into reverse. I took it to a Subi man, he replaced a bolt in the selector sleeve and it worked for a short time. It has returned and he said that the problem is the sleeve or rod is worn and it is expensive to repair. Is this right and am I up for an expensive repair?

Post #1 is the diagram of the shifter mechanism, Post #4 is the parts you'll need. Just assuming it's too sloppy to get it into reverse?

I have cut a two groves with an angle grinder in the sleve so when the bolt is tightened the sleve becomes a clamp onto the shaft.

can also be a sign the clutch needs adjusting of the cable or renewing ?

Is it easier to select R if you switch engine off first ?

Nup.... the gear lever is rather sloppy and it is just as hard to get in with the engine stopped or running. I took the Brumby into Pedders so they could do a complete suspension check (theres another $1900!!) and they guy couldn't get it into reverse. I had to wrestle the bugger to get it in for him.

Tried putting in second gear first? Works on my 4.44 box on the odd occasion it doesn't want to play.

Well, sounds like FROGs anti slop kit delivered under $30 will go a long way to helping gear selection.
$1900 at pedders done or just a quote? Sounds like a steering rack in that price ?

I'd be telling pedders where to go at that price!

Surely you could replace every bush, spring and strut/shock for half that price and a bit of effort!

They'll probably be adding their suspension parts which will greatly change the handling characteristics of the vehicle. I've heard many people ask "pedders?" when talking suspension on a particular vehicle, their usual reply when my answer is yes is something like "yeah, thought as much!"

Steptoe, just a quote, don't have that sort of money lying around, I missed out on the 100 mil lotto. The quote included a steering overhaul. I was thinking it would be just as clever to find a power steering rack, get it overhauled and have that fitted.

El Freddo, I thought about doing it myself, I am just a bush mechanic, the bit I know is enough to make me dangerous!!!
