Power Steering leak - 98 OBW

Post by fredsub » Sat May 19, 2012 8:40 pm

contemplating doing something about power steering leak.
Been adding the so called stop leak fluid, but

so is there any tips on what exactly to do about it, what seals replace
etc, looks to be quite a job to get at it......
might be easier if I pull the engine out maybe?

Thanks

Which part of the system is leaking?

The steering rack is accessible from under the car, pulling the engine will not help you out with that.

I have a similar question. I had my Subaru Outback 1997 serviced by a mechanic. They topped up the power steering fluid. The colour is yellowish or brownish.

The reservoir covere says it has to be Dexron. Dexron is red in colour.

So... what fluid should I use to top up the reservoir ?

most mechanics buy in bulk to save extra on oil 200L drums some buy in 20L drums the colour is the brand choice. check with mechanic the brand of oils he uses so if you need to top up you buy the right oil brand
