Poor radio reception in fringe areas

The stereo in my MY07 Liberty has noticeably poor (staticy) FM radio reception in the fringe reception areas compared to our Outback and previous models I've owned, just wanted to know if anyone has come across the problem and had it sorted, or not.

Subaru couldn't fault it during a recent service but that was in an area where to reception is really strong so I didn't expect them to be able to replicate it. Booster problem perhaps?

Any other ideas?

Yeah mine is the same, I solve it by putting a CD in the slot.

maybe that extra lift in the outback realy helps!

My 98 Liberty sedan, the WRX has a roof antenna but isn't a lot better.

Yeah standard one. It's really heaps worse than the Outback, wondering why so. Both area rear window antennas.

have you checked to make sure that the antena is getting that same amount as power as the other? i know i had this issue when i put a after market radio in my forester

My radio is quite bad, goes crackly a lot even in the city. Im thinking it might be a loose connection at the back of the head unit, have you checked the connections?

i was asking if its aftermarket because the subarus with window antennas actually have two antenna plugs and aftermarket stereos only have one. I have seen it before where one has only been used rather than getting a joiner.

Haven't checked the connections yet, It's never been pulled out so I'd assume it to be fine, but will probably have a look now just to rule it out. I'll just have to dig up my Factory Service manual wherever I put it.

I put an aftermarket one in my MY02 Liberty and made up a harness to connect both, seemed to work pretty good.

yeh ive made up my own as well, most car shops will sell the y-piece connector though.

im sure theres probably some kind of in-line booster than could be purchased to improve reception as well

the foresters, not sure about the libertys but they already have a inbuilt booster built in

Yeah, I'm pretty sure all the Subarus with window antennas have boosters. I'm thinking it might be the problem.

good chance, when i put in my new radio i didnt have the booster wired up correctly and i had reception but very poor. i would check this and make sure you are getting enough power to the aerial. not sure how much power the radio should be getting
