Now that I have silent front wheel barings the rattle from the rear driveshafts is getting very anoying. I had the same thing in my old car but never bothered to persue it.

Does anyone know how to fix it?

It's probably your uni joints. Uni's on an L series aren't replaceable AFAIK, so you may be up for a new shaft altogether.

Reread: ok, assuming its the rear axles, it will be your CV joints. I'd recommend in the short term swapping left to right to see if that makes a difference. When they get a bit noisy on me I buy 4 new boots (universal size) and pull them down, clean and repack with grease. I usually break them before wearing them out, never actually heard of one wearing out as such now that I think about it.....

It's not the clicking cv noise, it's a rattling noise. When you turn the tailshaft you can see the driveshafts try and twist a bit like the stubs are worn down a bit. There is a looseness in there somewhere which rattles.

My grandad's outback was here the other day, I should have got under it and had a look to see what new stuff does :-)

Tony at Suba Repairs told me I had the same thing going on my Brumby. How is it fixed? Expensive? (Didn't ask him at the time..)
