factory boost controller

so the story reads, i bought a leone converted with an rs engine off a member here and it's boost cutting at about 6 psi,it's had one of those dodgy t piece controllers installed but its missing the factory boost controller and the subi-guru suggested that this being missing will make the ecu cut the boost in "limp mode" type scenario and it's also running an under-powered fuel pump.. has anyone experienced the same type of symptoms or can confirm the limp mode and me needing to get my hands on a new boost controller and what would be an applicable fuel pump to install onto an 85 leone and then into a 91 liberty later down the track.

cheers

Vl turbo fuel pump. It's what I used to great effect on that actual motor. There's nothing wrong with those boost controllers. Try turning it down gradually. Like half a turn each time.

I suspect its open too far causing the motor to hit boost cut. I was running 16-18psi easily with this motor, but the tools that bought it off me might have (most definately) stuffed around with it.

did you have the standard boost controller installed aswell as running the t-piece? or did you have it removed aswell.

If its the same car, White leone sedan with a RS scoop welded and bogged up that now cracked as hell, it looks very nice but when i went to see it, it overheated on me after idling for 20mins, 'Coolant' rusted water boiled and shot out of the rad and that was with no thermostat. I know cause i took it off. Radiator must have been badly blocked...

Did you buy it to put it back on the road or use it as parts?

It only had a single core radiator and running one thermo fan. Thats not much cooling for a ej20t. Also the wiring is straight out of the RS and hasn't been cut.

If your using it for the engine id test it and make sure its 100% before you do all the work and get in in your Liberty.

nah its a blue one off i member here, has a cut down rs loom so planning to chuck her in my liberty and either wreck it or put my 2.2 into it and use her off-road, been running around in her abit sorted out a few issues and seems to go not to bad except i cant get anything more the 6 pounds out of it, theres an after market fuel pump on her now aswell so it's not that, it feels like an ecu boost cut rather then a lack of fuel have to take it to see a friend and chuck her on the diagnostic comp. have you still got your water to air intercooler set up? i might just be interested

yeh the stock controller is missing and i think this is whats cause the boost cut as the ecu will not be recieving the required information from it if anyone can confirm if it missing will cause a "limp mode" type scenario... yeh guy ill bring her round and give you abit of a look if you want wouldn't mind having a look at your brothers car to see what it is i'm missing if thats fine.

There should be a whole bunch of boost solenoids and stuff. Brown tops on them.

I had this same issue when I first did the conversion and had them hooked up incorrectly except she was over boosting to 20psi and hitting boost cut, back down to 6 psi. It feels like a violent stutter.

Yeh that's where they're meant to go. Sounds like sum funny business has been done to get the front mount and stuff to work. The dude that bought the conversion package off me was pretty dodge.

yeh there was a few things on it we've already fixed i.e afm after the turbo and the cluthc being adjusted so badly you could barely get gears.. but seem to run not to bad, i'm going to pull it out and ditch all the supercheap shit he's got on it and go back to water to air top mount and stock plumbing i think i should know an ej20t back to front by the end of fixing up his shit ahah

Oh yeh that clutch is very custom. I spent afew dollars getting it built up. It's got more grunt than a wrx clutch so the clutch can handle a fair bit of power. Gearbox on the other hand...

No sh*t.. you should have seen the way the intercooling/afm and other bits were hooked up :???: at first I thought you must have helped him Alex :p

But there was definately no boost controller stuff attached.
