hi guys, i tried a search but didnt come up with the right info. my brumby is getting up to the top of temp gauge. the thermo fans have always worked until recently. it is an a/c model with two elec fans, but the d*&^ head previous owner removed the front condenser radiator, the v belt and maybe a relay im not sure so none of it works. the compressor is still there and i have put the front condenser radiator back in hoping to get the air con working again. i have just put in a new radiator but still getting hot. its ok if i am cruising doesnt get passed middle line. where do i start? is the switch on the side of the radiator drivers side a thermo switch or temp?

Mine worked fine when i was driving, then when i was stopped it overheated. My coolant level wasn't full. With what i had it was ok driving. If your level and radiator are fine, defanately your fans just not getting the air through the rad keeping it cool. How is your thermostat?

i havent checked thermostat yet, where is it located? but when i put new radiator in top hose was hot and so was bottom one when it was idling for a while.

near the engine follow the top pipe from the radiator

if the top and bottom hoses are equal temp then the thermostat is generally opening up it could however be opening up to early those thermos have to be hooked up tho

yeah thermo fans are hooked up, they just stopped working all of a sudden. where abouts is the relay or fuse for the thermo fan?

umm not sure on brumbies but it will be where ever the fuse box/es are

The RHS fan operates off the single pole switch on 84 Brums anyway. If you have AC - you get the LHS elec fan as well, it usually not connected with the RHS fan. Only comes on with AC ON AND all systems GO with AC controls which means interior fan also on at least a notch. I have rigged one that was AC equipped to get LHS fan on by turning AC switch on, the interior fan on - I have bridged a pressure switch in the AC gas line up near the LHS headlight. The switch has two male blade terminals, the loom connector two females. i shoved a blade fuse in to bridge bypass the switch, just have to remember to also turn interior fan on when I press the AC switch in to engage fan LHS

Thermostat, yeah, been running without one at all with my EA82T and is running 5 to 10 degrees cololer, the fn switches in 2 to 4 degrees earlier. Worth a try to drive it without thermostt to help ID any problems.

yeah the pass side fan links directly to a/c compressor, so the switch for the drivers fan is the single pin i put into the new radiator. and there is only three cord looking things by the strut tower and three relays. no fuses for fans in cab either.

PROBLEM SOLVED! i after a bit of thinking at work and some more searching i found one post which someone stated the thermo switch earths through the radiator so i earthed it and they both fired up! i know only one is suppose to come on and the other with a/c but the old fella who had it before me must of wired it up so they both come on. oh well tthe old radiator was really on its last legs and leaking so im glad ive done it now, also getting a new thermostat and coolant today from autobarn. thanks for all your help guys i wouldnt have been able to nut out all the possibilities if it werent for your input.

Good to hear and this was going to be my first suggestion since you dropped a new radiator in...

Also, with the AC fan working with the RHS thermo fan when the thermo switch triggers I think you'll find that both are meant to come on, but they're staggered for some reason or other. I know this is what happens with Sunnie the Brumby's AC even when the pressure switch etc wasn't in operation due to no gas in the AC system... I hooked everything up for the use of the second fan to kick in while towing in the hot summer heat. Worked a treat.

it was happening before i put the new radiator in, but i remembered i put the a/c condenser back in front of radiator so it must of removed an earth somehow.

hey the misses just got home with the coolant and thermostat, the guy forgot to put in a thermostat gasket which i asked him to do. do i need it?

got a cornflake box? I have pulled an EA82 apart that had some sort of cereal donate its cardboard to make a gasket. The may have supplied the wrong one anyway TTG15 is my number for Brumby. Tridon brand. Got silicone to add to the cardboard?

ahh ok, if thats the case i might wait until sat morning when i go to autobarn to get a tridon thermo switch part no tfs 195, i read on here it makes the thermo fans cut in earlier, they currently cut in when gauge is above half and just below 3/4, seems a bit hot for my liking. i was thinking they were like some of the commodore thermostats i have used with a built in rubber.
