L-Series strut top bearings

Pulled down my struts to change the springs. Noticed that the bearings in the top mount seem dodgy.
Can you get these out for replacing, as they seem to be retained or something?
They are 6302RS bearings.

Oddly though, there is no seal on the top side, and it attracts a lot of shit from being exposed.

The other thing was that the nut was hell tight, had to borrow a rattle gun from work to get them off. I dont think that they needed that much torque, as the biggest spring washer behind each nut is the coils themselves!

Rebuilt struts with new King Springs. Really need new struts, but these will have to wait for now, possibly KYB's. Bearings just cleaned and regreased.
Kings have 5 coils to the original 6, made the reassembly a bit harder to compress.

Dont know what Mr Fuji was thinking when he designed these. They are an improvement over the MY ones, but the bearing top should have been a tapered roller bearing design, not ball race as they are better for thrust load.

I would be interested to what design strut tops (in regards to bearings) do Impreza, Liberty have?

The same again, a ball race bearing. Funny, I thought exactly the same thing first time I pulled apart a Liberty strut, seems the ball bearings must be able to cope with thrust load somewhat though, you don't hear of many later model strut tops busting....

Don't hear of many Lib's actually going offroad either. Least not in WA :D

They should be interesting... we drive our cars rather hard... i guess we will find out rather quickly if there are any weak components in them.
