I recently bought a ej20T motor on ebay, and i am now rebuilding it and putting it into my touring wagon. The guy i bought it of said it was a 98 motor but he was not to sure, so any way i have take the heads of and taken them in to the shop to get shaved and checked, now i need to order new gaskets but i dont know the year model so not sure which ones to get? and also for the timing belt kit, the heads on it with the shim and bucket style lifters if that helps and the numbers on the block are AB and then four number, i dont have the motor here. Are the heads all the same? any help would be great, Cheers

There should be the same for all ej20T's. It shouldn't change. If not Check the engines VIN Number, this will help you with everything. Just tell the guy in the shop what your after, and for this VIN, and it should be all good.
I go to car shops for my brumby, they look up the engine number and or VIN and they can give me the precise part!

That works well Cam, but I don't think he got the VIN details with the engine - just the engine which could make it painful.

I'd be contacting frog and let him know straight up that you don't have the donor's VIN. If you can work out what the donor vehicle was, try and grab one from someone who's got the matching type of vehicle with the same engine as what you've got headed for your wagon ;)

best way to work it out is to pull the heads off and measure the bore. then get head gaskets to suit.
