Alternator Problem

The other day my L series wouldn't start and so i gave it jump start. It wouldn't keep its charge and broke down twice on the way home and ended up getting a tow. Today, the RAC workshop said the alternator was stuffed. This wouldn't normally surprise me, but the alternator and battery is only a year old. Does any one have any theories as to what is going on?

I'm not sure if it is relevent but I had a similar problem on my xg ute and it was a blown fuseable link caused by a short in the system not sure where because got rid of it before I had anymore drama.

Yep, check FLs. I had similar problems when I had the original alternator wiring charging two batteries from dead flat. Too much current -> blown fusible link (the rearmost one, IIRC). I was looking at the alternator before I sussed it out.
