Pinging and Octance Boost

Has anyone else with turbo subies been having trouble with pinging and detonation in the recent heat (W.A.)?
Mine has been detonating under almost any load at all above about 3500rpm. Im running bp ultimate 98 and octance boost and i cant still make it do it without too much effort.
And noone in WA can ECUtek retune the B4, what else can i do? Im currently looking at forking out for a UniChip and dyno tune?

Hmmm, I reckon fuel's gone to crap just lately. While I haven't had any trouble with the subaru (yet!!), my wife's normally aspriated Toyota that always used to run quite happily on standard unleaded has started pinging so we've been using premium which has more or less stopped the pinging except in hot weather as you mention.

the B4's were always known for pinging their heads off
be careful...

The B4 tune is just plain crazy(as is the set-up for that matter).....but regardless of that it still should not ping unless its being pushed substaintially.
If your buying BP98 from balcatta don`t ! its not ! and if you using any other octane boost that NF or Nulon pro...your wasting your time.
..IMO your wasting your money on ECutek`n or Unichipp`n that set-up !
What plugs you running, has it pinged ever since rebuild ?....many reasons for pinging !
OS
PS: Stick a single on it and stripped down single engine harness with chipped ECU or PFC and it will rock !

it was pinging before and after rebuild. Is fine when temp is below about 30 degrees. And only at WOT, using Nulon Pro helped some.
Its running standard plugs but there brand new since rebuild.
After seeing all the piping and cabling mess im beginning to agree the twins is mad, but when they run right they do go well. And if i buy a unichip for it then i'll still have a unichip if i give up and go single.

I have a twin turbo legacy that we always used to run on bp ultimate until it blew the engine 2months ago.
The replacement engine that had 80,000 less km's on it pinged like crazy when first started and driven with the same tank of bp ultimate that was in it before the changeover.
We drained that tank and put some Shell Optimax in and it stopped pinging straight away. Have since ran Mobil Synergy 8000 without any pinging as well.
We are currently arguing with bp about what caused our engine to blow as it all points to the fuel.

..thats the f`d thing...some servo`s sell you crap, BP in balcatta certainly aint selling BP98, what ever the f it is it will make my cars ping like crazy......and the caltex on the corner`s vortex is worst than cats wizz....std cat wizz from the gull pings less than thier vortex !
You just have to be careful....and buy from a know source !, servo operators are dodgy at the best of times....do anything to increase thier profit margin.
But anyway, as far as pinging goes.....on the same equipement(manifold, injectors turbo ecu etc etc, long motor swap..) my new EJ20R doesn`t ping at all(not one hint) on 1.1bar boost...... EJ20G was a diffrent story !
..as I`ve been told by a reputable source, you can`t go by car modle or engine desination...Subaru liked to play mix and match with pistons and compression ratios for diffrent markets...or when-ever they pleased.... an EJ205 isn`t the same as another EJ205... etc etc .
..guess this still doesn`t help your car/issue...but I know what would ! A single turbo set-up :P

would you leave my twin turbos alone alright .. i like them. I dont care if there daft and not very effective. There kinda cute.
just jokes.. anyway i ran the tank right down to empty .. refilled and all was good today and my car thought it was 32 degrees when i went for a burn at lunchtime. Wasn't able to make it ping at all, so quite possibly coulda been a fuel issue.
this fuel was from kwinana hub petrol station which ive never had problems with, i think the one before was from south perth..

I've found Myaree BP to have quite a good brew too.
Best I've found in Perth is luckily at my local one - Riverton BP.
Never pinged off that stuff.

BP main street OsbPark, best stuff around here, they have a high turnover which keeps things fresh...... I also use Nulon Pro strength(150ml to tank, or 150ml to 20-25ltrs for Wed nights

) a lot of the time....just the way I drive and that boost addiction...(lots of it !).
Anyone ever seen shell 100 octane or any other pump available 100 in Perth ?........
Twins

yeah there cute I guess, whats on yours Matt ? 20 & 21 ?.......seen some pretty funky exhaust set-ups for the twins lately, few places over east making pre-fabbed stuff...makes you wonder !

i wouldnt have thought to many places would make things for them being a bit rare and painful.
To be perfectly honest i dont even know what the turbos are on mine.
I used that nulon pro stuff in the last tank it was ok but i think i had pretty bad fuel to start with.
The shell 100 is the ethanol blended isn't .. and nope havent seen it.
