so im striping a 83 touring wagon to make a little fun machine and have removed the last bit of interior (the dash).... now she doesnt go?

the starter isn't starting, i can hear the relay click but its not turning the starter. its not the battery or the starter.

im guessing there was something to do with the starter grounded by its mount when the dash was in, but now its out its nolonger grounded?

if any of this stuff helps its a 1983 MY touring wagon, 3 speed auto (i've tryed starting in all locations on the shifter). was running fine befor dash being removed.

any help were to look would be good help.

What relay is clicking? The one on the starter motor?

Have you tried bypassing the key ect and putting 12v directly onto the spade terminal of the starter motor. Just be very careful and make sure you are in PARK and have the HANDBRAKE on

We found that , then realized that once you remove the dash , you are removing part of the system. In the manuals, we have to hot wire the fuel pump and they will start , but not keep running, so by holding the on the on position + abit , but not trigger the starter. We can move them around. With the auto. Have you removed the wiring from the shifter. if so you have no thing to read the neutral lock out. ( the wire that read if the shifter is in neutral or park) .

There is something in this, I recall no start with dash instrument cluster out or disconnected at the two round 20 or so pin plugs

wire going to the starter was loose, still on but loose...thats all stupid me didnt check it till last.

i guess pulling wires inside the car loosedned up the connection, made it tight again and up she started.

this is the to do list
-bigger wheels maybe 6 studing (what ever upullit has)
-adjust front struts up and strenghten
-strenghten everything to do with front suspension control arms/radius rods
-body work (triming of gaurds, maybe something special with hood)
-sort out the motor(drinks abit of water), it would be fine for a race weekend but better to fix it now

sooooo heres some new pic's

yeah i though of selling it, but then i didn't think yours had sold.
