I have a brumby with an ea82T and its playing up big time. Over the last six months its been getting worse starting with just a bit of a splutter while cruising around it now plays up all the time but intermitantly. As in it will start and run fine and then while driving if i come of the accelerator it just drops the revs to basically nothing, when you put your foot down nothing happens it just coughs and splutters and it eventually pics up but not for long as it will do it again. Pulling up at the lights at idle the revs will drop and the idle will fluctuate until it stalls and won't start and run again properly without a big rev. On the highway it is fine until under load/on boost the same thing will happen in that there is loss off power and smoke comes out the back. If anyone has experienced this it would be help to here your advice. I have alredy replaced the tps but found no improvement cheers.

Do you know how to read codes from the ecu? this could help point you in the right direction

Have you tried your MAF, or even the connections to it.

I have no time now however do a search on this site as i had a thread recently where my EA82T was doing the same thing. When i get some time i will put more detail - you could try your AFM.

MAF (Mass Air Flow) sensor and AFM (Air Flow Meter) are the same thing, they measure air flow into the engine, its the thingy with the wires coming from it that is part of your air filter housing.

Codes are your ECU's (engine control unit) self diagnostic read out. it is a little green light that flashes to tell you that there is something wrong with the efi system. the ecu is located under the steering column (metal box about 190x160mm in size) it has a green flashing light on the side of it

I will find out how to read the codes and post back.

hey i bought a new AFM and put it on but it did not fix it. So FRUSTRATING. Anyway i juct have to keep trying things and hopefullly i will ressolve the problem.

Sounds weird, try getting it tested for a cracked head gasket (you know that chem test they do from the rad to see if there is any CO2 in the cooling system)

To check for bad head gaskets i thought you open the radiator cap when cold, start the car then check for bubbles

thats how I do it.

check the point's gap on the distributor... that being thatu dont have an electronic ditsy... my need to replace the rotor cap as well....

That's 1 was of doing it, and the 1st sign i look for however trust me does not always work.
