water leak and a cut in power

driving tonight through the brisbane city, just as it started to bucket down, absolutely bucket down. about 3 minutes after the rain started, i drove through a large puddle of water with the right side of the car. water splashed up over the front of the car and to the sides and i didnt pay much attention to it at the time. about 100m up the road as i wa stopped at a set of lights, i had some water drip on my right foot while it was on the accelerator as i just started to take off. not much further along the car spluttered under acceleration almost like water was in the dizzy cutting the spark.

a little bit further along more water on my right foot again and that was the end of the water in the car.

the car spluttering went on and off for a further 15 minutes and then that was it. i dont know if it was related, but it stopped spluttering at about the same time as the rain slowwing down.

initially i thought it was water over the air filter, since the air filter is that side of the car. then i thought water on the dizzy, then lastly if the water on my foot had anything to do with it. when i got home the engine bay was almost completely dry, so i can pretty much rule that out, so i assume it must be something to do with the water on my foot - and where it came from.

any ideas???

If the EA82T intake is the same as carby L's there is quite a maze and sump to stop water getting in through air filter set up. Mighta just been water on the engine near spark plugs and engine heat dried it up for you by the time you looked. Water has leaked onto things such as the ECU and other electrical stuff in its past life, pre rust hole patch up with fibreglass

well i think i found where the leak came from - the grommet thing between the firewall and the drivers side strut tower - it wasnt on right. still doesnt explain the loss in power, but i guess the water on things that eventually dried up sounds about right. thanks
