MY02 H6 Outback transmisson problem

Hi all, I am new here and hopefully you can help me out.
I have a MY02 3.0L H6 Outback with a transmisson problem.
Basically it is stuck in limp home mode. It has been at the auto trans mechanic for several weeks. The fault code (I don't know the number) is saying that there is a problem with the transmisson solenoid. Unfortunately it does not say which one. Two have been replaced with no effect. The transmisson computer has been checked with no problems found.
No fault shows in neutral but appears as soon as it is put in gear.
The wiring from the transmisson to the computer has been removed and checked.
The only other possibility is that one of the diagnostic computers (2 or 3 tried) shows a fault with an engine torque sensor (I think).
Has anyone had a problem like this or know of one as it is starting to drive me crazy. There should be no mechanical problems as it has only 55 000 km and has been serviced every 6 months from new.
HELP!
