Ny daily driver is a 1992 1.8L L Series Wagon that is completely stock. A while back i was having some issues with the engine randomly cutting out whilst driving. The engine would then require a fair bit of cranking over as it struggled to fire up again. Once started it would generally be fine. At the time i was having carby issues so i thought it had something to do with that and had it rebuilt.
I then replaced spark plugs, leads, dissy cap, rotor button and fuel filter. This problem seemed to be fixed... until yesterday when it decided to die, TWICE on my way home through the city. To me it seems like a fuel issue so maybe fuel pump? Just thought i would throw it out there for discussion.

A trick to determine if it is fuel supply when it cuts out is to pull off air filter box and hand operate the carby to see if any fuel squirts out the acc pump nozzles or wipe glass sight window to see if fuel is at correct level - a dot etched on glass? A squirt of start ya bastard or even CRC may help it fire if it is fuel problem. Check all earth grounding connections for the pump and ignition. Also if it is electrical the fusible links inside the brown platic box attached to radiator over flow bottle check that they are sound and not corroding away....

hehe i had a similar prob with my brumby . every now and then it would cough . i thought crap in the carby. then the other day it stoped just like running out of petrol.i checked the carby hmmm none from the sprays so not being far from the subi wreakers in beerwar i toddled of on foot . told wayne my problem and that i checked spark (very roughly i mite add but wont say how lets just say i had spark) shudup rick lol.

he said how long ago did i change the rear fuel filter me change that yea rite .soi bought one of them walked back put it on still no go. so back to the wreakers got a fuel pump .put it on .i splashed a bit of fuel from the old one in the carby .well it started . turned it of to replace air filter and other bits.

guese what the bugger didnt go again

last resort ring tow truck took it round to waynes . he wasnt there but his doughter who works in the work shop just loled as it rolled of the tow truck.i knew she was thinking dads guna fix that easy as.

he cam back from testing another car climbed in mine turned the key and just said its got no spark.bull s t i said . the dizy was rs .he put in another one and fixed the problem.

car goes heaps better starts better fuel lasts longer

Any idea on what can go wrong with a dizzy? I would imagine they would be quite expensive unless its second hand?

modules are replaceable after market

dizzys have bushings and mechanical guts that need lubrication

bushings can wear giving freeplay and alters things and the guts can dry up rust up sieze up

used price is about 40 to 70 bucks
