EA82 Problem!

Just did the Head Gaskets on My little bros L Series Wagon. After putting it all back together it has a very loud bang / crunch coming from the engine and won't idle. It sounds like it is going to blow a head off or something. It won't idle and basically won't start unless it is full throttle (WOT). Things we have checked so far.

Cam blet timing
Ignition timing
Replaced Plugs
Checked rotor / dissie
Cleaned and Checked Weber
Checked Vacuum Lines

Things we will check tomorrow

Intake gaskets
Replace Coil (With known good spare)

Does anyone have any other ideas? We are both open to ideas?

some of the other symptoms on my l series include, missing the popping out of carby. through experimentation we also found it runs smoother and with no missing or popping if a spark plug is fully removed. we have compression tested it. cylinders 1 and 3 get around 1100 kpa while 2 and 4 get around 800-900kpa. i did stuff up cam belt timing initially, however this has been rectified.

thanks for any help or suggestions

hope you didn't damage the valves when you first had the cam belt timing wrong, good luck!

By pure luck we didn't damage the Valves which is amazing due to the fact it has Flat top pistons in it. The cam timing was out! Morale of the story never trust you little bro to read the Gregories Right!!! LOL!!! one cam was 180 degrees out..... Runs just nicely now.

Thnaks Everyone..

ea82 is freerunning engine right? mine broke a timing belt due to a seized tensioner and I just put a timing belt kit in it and away it went...
