MPFI or carby engine?
Are you using E10 fuel?
I has issues with starting with a hot engine with E10 with my carby engine, apparently had something to do with the ethanol evaporating in the fuel bowl

trying holding te accelerator down like halfway when starting.
or possibly give it a pump or two before hand.

either way you'd have an electric fuel pump. If it is carby I wonder if you turn ignition on for a few seconds before trying to start to allow electric fuel pump and the needle and seat work to top up float chamber to counter any fuel evaporating from carby - think it would then evaporate to charcoal cannister. I have seen people attempt to resolve heat affecting fuel lines to carby by insulating the fuel line in various ways
Tasmania get hot ?

Could be due to the car being tuned when the engine was still warming up, this will always cause issues.
I read in the owners manual that the MPFI should have no throttle on cold start, but you should use half throttle for a warm/operational temp start - something I never did and it was fine, when I had the MPFI...
It could also be a dirty carbie.

check the following things:
1. air filter clogged
2. fuel not reaching to the carburetor or to the fuel injectors
3. corroded battery connection especially ground.
4. choke or carby problem.

Yep thats what I have to do with mine otherwise it almost drains my battery with the time it takes to turn over.
I just open the throttle a little bit and it fires up almost instantly.

maybe the auto choke...? if it's carby and getting old then it might need an overhaul?
