Hi all
Trying to iron out the issues with my mates 86 rx turbo.
Car was bought with a dud engine,
Has been rebuilt with new rings, recond heads, new belts etc..
The car idles poorly,at low rpm it struggles to get up the revs until boost comes on,then she runs good.
Last thing done was to get injectors cleaned and use a different afm with no change.
any input appreciated.
Also
* What is the fuel pressure meant to be?
* What is the compression ratio on these?
Thanx
Chris

first thing id say is get a decent Vacuum/Boost Guage and figure out what its doing.
Vacuum part being just as (if not more) important as knowing what boost its running.

although it will be hard to try and diagnose the readings over a forum, but you can read all about Vacuum on the net and what is normal and not normal if you know what its at.

Fuel pressure is 36psi at zero manifold pressure, not at idle

Depending on which AFM/computer system it runs (85-86 is flap/mid 87+ is hotwire MAF) you have to make sure you're running the correct throttle position switch .
The early ones have two sets of points like switches for idle and wider open throttle . The late ones only have the idle switch and a potentiometer to tell the computer exactly how far open the throttle is and the speed at which it opens , they don't have the open throttle switch .

Regardless of which type the idle contacts need to be adjusted to open as the throttle initially opens . If its set wrongly you get all sorts of silly things happening .

Something to check , cheers A .

Hi
Had another play with it last night, fuel pressure 35psi which sounds about right, the timing belts are spot on,next wil be to check the "chocke"circuit, its running very rich as if it is constantly on chocke.
Its an 86 with flapper afm
Also be looking closely at the wiring around the manifold, some of the wires go nowhere or might be in the wrong spot.
Luckily Paul has a similar car to compare with

Is the hose on the under side of the turbo to throttle plenum connected properly?
