Surging Under Accelleration

Gday all ye wiley in the ways of L Series.

I am writing for some advice. I have put up with it and it is finally giving me the poo poo's. When accellerating the L series is sometimes surging, a bit like it is hunting for revs...if I keep going up in revs, it seems to iron itself out but it is really starting to annoy me.

The car is a MPFI Touring Wagon - I have replaced the fuel filter and the leads. Can the one or all the following be the culprit:

a: Fuel Pump(Bosch 65psi hi vol - about 100k kms)
b: O2 sensor
c: Fuel injectors
d: Other!!

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I reckon it is the fuel injectors personally - I dumped a tank of Vortex 95 in the tank with some flashlube to see if it will make a difference.

Hooroo

to make it surge it has to be over advanced timing or lean air fuel mixture, and i would speculate that you have a problem with an oxygen sensor or coolant temp sensor is dodgy.

you haven't got any sources of unmetered air ie vacuum leaks?

more likely to be o2 sensor problem than blocked injectors. wouldn't be a fuel pump, if you take it for a good flog and it cuts an dies the worse you flog it then its a fuel pump...

Have you checked for codes?

Have a look here How to check EA82 MPFI ECU codes

Also water in the fuel can cause a surge.

Yepp codes are all sweet and I will pull the tank access off to check for water although I think it probably might be the O2 sensor - it looks very ordinary and I suspect it is the original one....

Any idea as to cost and where to get them? I saw an ad in Just Parts for O2 sensors but no prices...may have to go OEM and hit Subaru in Phillip up.

With the fuel injectors, is there another brand I can use other than the standard replacements? They are bloody expensive little sausages!!!

Hooroo and thanks for the help!!:)

Get your fuel injectors serviced, costs about $25 each

As for your o2 sensor, you can get universal ones off ebay for cheap, and they do the job

I bought one of these OXYGEN-SENSOR-O2-SENSOR-SINGLE-WIRE-UNIVERSAL and it works great.

I get the generic oxy sensor from my local parts joint - the last one cost about $70.
