Pinging in my lib

Post by Shark » Sun Oct 19, 2008 11:43 pm

Hey guys coming home tonight my car was pinging pretty bad and its the first time i have noticed it.. It didnt do it on normal boost but since boosting it it has done it on occasion but really bad on the way home tonight... Its an ej20t in a 91 lib auto and i have recently wound the boost up to 12psi and am running 95 fuel..

Any ideas why its pinging so bad, it only does it with foot falt to the floor

I only run BP ultimate and nothing else seems to prevent the problem.

I run 95 octane from any random fuel pump (whatever is closest to me when I need fuel) and never ever get pinging. Only running standard boost tho.
Try adjusting your boost back down, if it still does it perhaps it's not the right ECU for the motor?

It never did it while i had it on std boost so its gotta be something to do with the fact that i have increased boost.. Also it only seems to do it under high revs as in 6k plus not even under heavy accelertion with max boost, just when it gets to higher revs..

Am gonna pay more attention to it tomorrow and see if i can work out exactly what its doing.. Will fill with 98 if no improvement on thursday..

not a wise idea to run boost with 95ron, unless youd like a hole in your piston

i would be backing the boost off in a hurry. it doesn't take a lot of detonation (pinging) to damage an engine.

So when running higher boosts its pretty much a std thing to only run 98 octane??
