Auto no go

Here's the deal.Driving along go to overtake a dangerous driver floor it get a good kickdown revs out dumps into gear all good.About 5Kms down the road auto starts slips back off manual shift no worries add a bit of load or throttle a wee bit of slipping,by the time a get to stop got no gears.Shut down the motor got to start it again lots of starter/TC spinning no motor spinning. Now you can spin the flex plate theres no resistance.
Now i'm thinking all the bolts in the flexplate have sheared or fallen out.Any ideas?
What do ya reckon

Anyone had this happen ?Wouldn't think a ej22 would have bolt busting power.

yeah you have done a flex plate mate. if the converter is spinning and the engine isnt its the only explanation...
i have seen a cracked one but it was behind an EJ20T. you must have done a top job rebuilding that thing

Yeah I've torn a flex plate in two leaving a nice neat little circle around the flex plate bolts and thrust bearing (Not in a subaru though).
But before you tear the whole thing apart just check your transmission fluid with the engine running because if you've just blown a hose or run out of fluid this could save you some time and heart ache!

definately seperation between crank and plate. You can spin the motor and see the rear turn and no movement at the plate.Guesss itss motor out or box slipped back to inspect the real damage.

Thanks Dane for the offer.
Haven't seperated it yet but am pulling the motor to do it and a few other things while its out, just a few bolts to go.The tc is unbolted from the flexplate and you can spin the flexplate around so its definately buggered.
A few metal filings in ther too.

I have seen on some models a larger than normal plate that bolts over the back of the flex plate and is about 6in in diameter, my only thought would be to stop excessive flex causing the flex plate to shear.

Is the spigot in the rear of the crank damaged?
how badly chewed is the centre locator?
Made a nice neat cut out of the flex plate
