HI all
For the second time now my 93 Lseries 4x4 wagon has had a strange hic up.
The first time it happened I had just come around a corner in 2nd, put my foot on the gas, the revs picked right up but the car just sat there. Last weekend while giong up a long hill diong about 65, put my foot on the gas and again the revs picked up but the car just kept going at the same speed. So I just cruised up at 65 and over the hill the car was just fine ???
Thc car has 220,000km with timing belt changed at 150,000
Cheers

clutch on the way out?

clutch sounds highly likely, check if its gone by doing a standing start in 4th (or 5th) - if it stalls (like it should) its ok, if you can take off (albeit very slowly) its very nearly gone. Otherwise if the clutch was done recently, they didn't blot it back right.

If the revs are flaring and the speed isnt increasing and its not an auto then you have a clutch issue either too much tension on the clutch cable or the clutch plate is stuffed.

Its an EA82... enough said!!!

Seriously though, it does sound like the clutch is slipping. If it smells anything like your brakes do after a good work out at times like you've mentioned it's the clutch.

Some adjustment may prolong the inevitable cluch change.

Cheers

+1 for the clutch, especially going up hills

Cheers all. I did the standing start in 4ht and 5th and it stalled. I think the the adjustment is set to high could this be the prob? No smells. Another strange thing, the first time was about 7 months ago then last week, all swell in between
