Strange issues -> EA82T
Strange issues -> EA82T
I am having a few problems with my EA82T Sedan.
Car:- EA82T 3 Spd Auto 4 Plug ECU.
Whilst I am driving short distances the motor just stops.
I look at the tacho & its reading 0RPM but it is still driving through the transmission so I still have power steering / brakes.
There is no warning like a hic-up or a splutter it just turns off as if I turned the key to off.
When I try to re-start the car it will just crank over & over & over.
If I let it sit for 10 to 15 mins it will start like nothing happened.
The fuel pump still primes & runs through cranking so there is fuel delivery to the injectors. I have replaced the fusible inks on a number of occasions to no avail.
What could it be?
Dodgy hot wire AFM?
Poor reading on the crank anger sensor in the dizzy?
I can’t find anything out place......
Thanks in advance....

some ECU input that can cut engine,
I recall the points signal can do just that,if it is dodgy, oh and the engine coolant temperature - had that happen once on the highway on a very hot day, just when putting the boot in engine died, me oh wtf! Engine restarted 10min later like nothin happened. Checked the the temp map later, and yes 110deg -> fuel cutoff:o
AFM ? if you disconnect isn't it still able to run, albeit poorly ? I don't know, mine used MAP, and it would still run if i disconnected the vacuum port.

I have replaced the coolant temp sensor when I rebuilt the motor (15,xxx Kms ago) - but it might be worth a check..

I know VL Commonwhores do this A LOT. My father owned 3 and I owned 1 out of desperation years ago and ALL of them done it.
Was exactly the same as this.... Crank angle sensor. I have no idea if an EA82T has one... would have thought so... but anyway... worth a look if it does.
thier in the dizzy on the commonwhores.

Big thanks to Suby Wan Kenobi for helping me.
It appears to be the igniter just below the coil. So far so good, drives like a different car!
