:confused:hi all,
having problems when going from 4x4 > 2wd in my L wagon. doesnt do it every time but most....
basically when i transefer back to 2wd the steering wheel goes spastic and ripps out of my hands and shakes and feels like major wheel imbalance for a while but then it goes away after a few minutes and all is fine??? any one had this happen?
(spoke to a mate and he was thinking maby the transfer case might not have oil and not shifting properly or something like that?)

Which gearbox do you have?

Are all your tyres the same size?
Are your diff ratios the same?
Are you driving in a straight line when disengaging 4WD?
Your "transfer case" is part of the gearbox. Check the oil level on the dipstick. You want it about 10 or 15mm above the full mark but I bet that's not the problem.

Never heard of this happening after disengaging 4wd. If you're driving on a non-slippery surface in 4wd the steering will become very difficult and may pull from side to side as one wheel looses a bit of traction on the front end.

Sometimes is it hard to disengage 4wd due to binding of the 4wd system - each wheel works against eachother when driving on a hard surface particularly when driving around corners. This is normal.

I recommend taking your car to someone that knows old Subarus. Try Rising Son.

Could be linkage that is wearing out and acting funny.. I suggest you to get it checked by someone who is familiar with Subarus specially gearboxes.
