Fuel pump dying??

Hey guys.
Been having a bit of trouble with my old girl over last couple weeks. Motor is standard ea81.
First problem is the idle. It doesn't want to idle at all, even with the manual choke half to three-quarters of the way open. I have to keep the accelerator on for it the idle.
Second problem is as follows. Does not want to maintain a steady speed. It will continue to slow down even with the accelerator flat to the floor. It just chokes and dies.
Both fuel filters have been changed round 10,000k's ago along with dizzy cap, rotor, plugs and leads. Was thinking it could be fuel pump dying, or maybe the carby needing a rebuild.
Cheers for any help.

A quick method would be o try some spray in carby cleaner observing its instructions - can do wonders - so too a carby rebuild

Have cleaned the carby twice in the last 4-5 months.

I had a fuel pump die on me once, but mine idled fine. It just used to cough and stutter going uphills, and when heavy on the throttle. It just didn't flow enough anymore. I rebuilt my carby before I worked that out.
If its not idling because of the fuel pump it would have to be virtually not flowing at all or a blocked line.
But i'm no mechanic

Doesnt hurt to swap over to another fuel pump? - grab one from wreckers..

Me too. I've had a couple of issues with the manual choke getting stuck fully on. What's involved with getting the carby rebuilt? What parts do they use?

When was it last time it was overhauled? It might be due? - I think they strip and clean every single bits.. not sure, Ive never gotten an carby rebuilt....
Cheers

You can do it yourself, kits are less than $50 last time I looked (a while ago now) but depending on the model of manifold on your EA81 you can fit the auto choke EA82 carb, I would get one of these fro a wrecker, rebuild that and fit it.
The bonus being you get an auto choke and you car isn't out of order while you rebuild the carb.
If you wanted more power you could rejet it to 120 primary and 210 secondary jets, reliably ran this setup for many years on my EA81.

and take plenty of photos of before you pull it apart to help with reassemble
Isn't an auto choke a pain, retro step ?

I wonder how blocked the water hoses are that supply warm or hot water to heat carby base and whether they have this much effect on thngsb

It took a few goes to get the auto choke setup right but ran like a dream afterwards.

back on the fuel pump. mine has gotten noticeably louder over the last omnth or two- almost like a cavitating noise. do ya think this means its on its way out, or just needs a clean out?
