Here's a doozey for you! Subaru 2.5ltr drives fine. Pull up at Claudia's place on the hill - being careful to select first or reverse gear and pull hand brake on hard. In the morning, engine won't go.
Shouldnt select first or Reverse anyway to try stop your car rolling if handbrake doesnt work.

3rd or higher is better.

Did you read the "Servicing or Lack Thereof" Steptoe?

I think you will find that you are wrong.

A lower gear like 1st or reverse has much better engine braking abilities than a higher gear like 3rd.

im thinking of the other way...using the engine to try and turn the Gearbox in a higher gear doesnt work.

either way, should get a working handbrake if parking on a hill :p

I read it. Backs up some good theory re lifters and oil grades and problems

The bit entitled 'mazda purring' mentions the thing stalling on deceleration coz the lifters pumpng up with too heavy an oil grade - decel was one symptom when my miss would occur!! I continue to feel confident the miss will be fixed with the new lifters , sorry HVLA's

If you try to push your car in gear handbrake off you will work out the lower the gear number the harder it is for you to push, the better the anti roll away ability

Few other good tabs in there too !
