Guys,

my speedo cable is giving me some serious problems and i would like to change it ASAP...can some one instruct me possible with some diagrams or pics or video clip to show how to do it...i m new to these things so wud like as much detailed info if possible...

Not enough time to do a full type-up but here's a quick one.

- Climb under the car
- On the driver's side of the gearbox, towards the top, about 6 or 7 inches back from where the engine meets the gearbox, you should see the speedo cable connecting into the gearbox
- It's a fairly large nobby thing which you can get a (I think) 17mm open ended spanner on to unscrew it. It has the cable coming out of the top of it and disappearing into a gromet in the firewall.
- unscrew it from the gearbox
- get inside the car
- get under the dashboard, stick your head where the pedals are. If you are a big person it helps to remove the driver's seat for this (4 bolts on the floor).
- find where the speedo cable comes thru the firewall and trace it up to where it plugs into the back of the dash cluster.
- it clips in, you just need to slightly push the clip up and gently pull and it will come out.
- then you can pull the cable out through the firewall. pull it out to the outside of the car because the bit that goes into the cluster is smaller than the nobby bit that goes into the gearbox
- to install the new one push the new one through the firewall then feed it up to behind the dash cluster - it should just push into the cluster and clip in.
- Then screw the nobby bit into the gearbox and you are done.

Sometimes you need to dismantle some parts of the dashboard to get access to the back of the dash cluster, there is not much room to work, it's kindof a bastard of a job sometimes so be warned.

just a side note - sometimes the clips bit that holds the cable in the back of the dash get loose with age so the cable falls off the back of the dash, just check the speedo cable is not just loose.
