error codes
when my RX is warmed up and i'm driving it around, I continually get 2 error codes and it's annoying the hell out of me because it's not effecting the driving of the car, just a real pita!
anyway, the codes i'm getting are 45 and 51. 45 makes no sense because according to the manual for the MPFI trouble codes there is no 45 - closest is 44, "duty solenoid valve (waste gate control). then 51 is just "neutral switch (continuously in ON position)". as I go looking through the manual to go to page 146 to see how to fix the neutral switch, there is no page 146 (damn it). same goes for page 147 to check out if it's the duty solenoid.
so can someone help me out? how to investigage either of them? thanks.

i have a build date march 87 rx leone, 3 plug ecu.
the codes i'm getting, well at least the "45" code still doesnt make sense. i have a manual, yet the codes indicate an auto problem.
where can i find the procedures for inspecting the neutral switch? as i said the manual i downloaded doesnt have the pages scanned. maybe if i repair that the other one will go away?

the nuetral switch is a manual thing.
theres a switch ont he box that detects when its int he nuetral position and on some cars will not allow it to crank over.
not sure exactly how itll relate to ur RX.
as for 45. is it possible its a manual conversion or an Auto ECU?

This might sound like a silly question, but are you sure its a 3 plug ECU. Cos codes 45 and 51 arent supposed to exist on a 3 plug. Have a look at your ECU and check back with us.
Have you cleared the codes recently?

auto to manual conversion - if it is it's a fantastic job and i cant tell. auto ecu - no idea. any quick way to tell?
certain it's a 3 plug - i've got a VAF to prove it! haha (got vac on the dizzy too)
in terms of clear the codes, no, however - when i turn the ignition on from cold, the check light comes on. then when i start the car it goes away until i rev the engine a bit - and naturally i dont do that until the engine is warm. still drives normally when it's going. will clear the codes tomorrow and see what happens then. will also check the model designation code and make sure it's a turbo manual

further to this, i'm still getting the error codes, but i have more information.
when the engine is cold, the warning light come on straight away. error code 12 (starter).
i go to crank the engine w/o throttle and it eventually stalls. i go to crank it again and it hold and idle fine. cant use throttle at this stage otherwise it'll stall. once the engine is warm, it's fine. still no error codes.
i then go to drive. drive normally and there are no error codes. get on boost and i get 45 and 51 as stated previously.
now the strange thing is that i've installed a boost gauge to see what's going on there. i thought i read somewhere that the RX was boost limited to 9.5psi or something? anyway, the car gets on boost up to about 11-12psi once it gets moving. as soon as i get that psi range, 45 and 51 error codes pop up.
any further thoughts???
on a side note, i thought with such a bubby turbo the car would get on boost pretty damn early. hell a mazda astina with a 1.8 turbo (with a slightly bigger turbo than what the RX has) was able to get to 8psi at only 1800psi once i had completed the dump pipe and full exhaust system!

The ECU needs a signal to know that the car is being started, otherwise it assumes the engine is stationary (no input from crank sensor) or running (pulsing input from crank sensor). So a wire from the starter switch (key barrel) goes to the ECU and tells it that the engine is in the process of being started
When the ECU recieves this signal, it adjusts the fuel mixture (and ignition timing on 4Plug systems) to optimise starting. Without this signal, you will experience hard starting

ECU is located under the steering column behind a plastic panel.
Locate the black and green plugs and the procedure is in the error checking link in my sig
