Loose cv stub

Post by stamp_licker » Thu Mar 13, 2008 7:42 pm

L series related.I've got a front cv that can be pushed out by hand from the wheel bearings. It appears the washer had slipped under the casle nut and the hub had become loose.Tightening the nut did nothing to stop the play in the hub.I'm thinking the bearings are flogged, but am also wondering if the cv stub can be worn down so it is no longer a tight fit in the bearings.

something a bit side tracked.. is it "rusty" look around that area? where about it has been rubbing metal to metal with dirt/sand/soil & water?

When the hub went back together after the last bearing change you did put the spacer in didnt you?

It may move in and out and feel "sloppy" till it is tightened up a bit.
