Oil leaks- what part is this called?

Post by Subafury » Wed Oct 31, 2007 11:59 pm

another problem to add to the list of stuff to get sorted.

recently ive noticed a medium sized oil leak appear under thee rhs ( and a little on the left) of my ea82t. in like a week and a half when i did my oil change (to a thinner oil) about half a litre has leaked out , onto the header and pooled on my bashplate. now see pic

where the little blue line is i believe is the head gasket yes? but then i dont know what the other gasket is below that- with the little green line. it seems like most of the oil is coming from there.
Imagemost of it comes out from somewhere along that gasket, onto that little stub thing and drips down onto the other side of that header, making some nice smells.

the other q is how hard is it to replace?
and also this engine may still be covered by a warranty from "the engine exchange" from 2005. says it covers 3/4 of engine but not head gasket. reckon this leak is covered? im gonna give em a ring anyway

Just remember that when looking for the Head it is the one where the Exhaust and inlet botl onto which means the Head Gasket is the Green lined one int he top pic. also u concentrated onto the Head gasket in the second pic aswell.

the blue lined gasket thingo im not sure wt the actual name is but i just pretend its a little cam housing thingo (see em on the early 90s Vauxhall engines in the barinas aswell)

if the Engine Exchange dont cover head gaskets then no that leak pretty much wont be covered lol.

wuldnt say its hard to replace but id say it takes more time than uve got with only one car and to do it properly.

arent the EA82Ts renowned for doing head gaskets?

Green line head gasket ,blue line cam housing normally silicon used as a seal there. It could be leaking from the crank seal and dripping out there.

Hey subafury,

Matatak is right, its your head gasket.

The red line in the first pic below is the head.

Image

^The part to the left of the head is the camshaft housing.

This image below where you say the leak is coming from is where the oil passage is, there's a little rubber O ring in there thats meant to seal it all up.

Image

Both of mine are leaking cos i think i put the wrong O ring in, its no biggie but i don't like it and am looking at replacing the headgaskets and putting a fatter O ring in of a slightly smaller diametre than the hole in the headgasket so it can expand into the headgasket rather than being squashed by it...

You can try your luck but I don't think they'll be covering it as it is a part of the head gasket... If you know what your doing its a weekend job with all the bits you need being there. If you're doing both it might be easier to lift the engine out, it may mean a little more work but it will make the headgasket change a hell of a lot easier.

Cheers
