1986 Ea82 Pollution Air Pump

Post by tobyduffill » Tue Sep 26, 2006 6:24 pm

The pollution Air Pump on my 1986 EA82 engine is making noise. With the bonnet down it sounds like an exhaust leak but when you lift the bonnet it is very obvious that the noise is coming from the Air Pump Muffler (black plastic box behind the left head) beside the distributer, can the Air Pump be blocked off without problems arising.

If blocking it off is not wise then does someone have a working Air Pump or Reed Valve + Muffler that they want to sell.

Regards Toby

Its designed to supply extra air to the catalitic converter, to make it work better.

I took mine off, i cut the metal tube off near the head, put a bolt in it and welded around it (i unbolted it off the motor before i welded it)
Never looked back.

Ive heard of putting a coin in there, a 10c piece might do it.
