ea82t speed sensor

Post by rxbrumby » Sat May 27, 2006 8:59 pm

I have fitted an ea82t into my brumby, I was wondering if not using the speed sensor in the dash would cause any problems other than giving a fault code?

If it is anything like an EJ it will cause you to stall on occasion when you pull up after driving. Also effects fuel economy.

I would guess it does the same in an EA 82T.

Actually, with the EA82T's it doesn't seem to matter. Lots of people run without swapping over to the dash cluster that has the speed sensor, or building in a sperate speed sensor.

I'm not totally sure that there isn't a "uses more fuel" issue, but I don't think there is.

i have an ea82t in another body, and it use,s the same fuel with or without the sensor...although i know for sure it stalls every 3 minutesdue to a fuel increase momentarily....if you have the engine idle up at 1200 it seems to pull thropugh by the time it drops to 750 or so once it initiates its glitch...

anyhow i have a speed sensor and am going to install it beside the magnetic bell spool on the speedo on the new car and this will give it the pulse it needs...by the way when the vehicle is not in motion..there is no reading...disconnected state...so you can still eliminate the speed sensor for any tuning probs you have as it is the same as being disconnected..when the vehicle is staionary..cheers

The speed sensor is designed to up the idle speed when the car is moving, supposed to create less stress for the clutch of something

In addition, If you have air suspension or cruise control, it responds with lowering the suspension automatically after a given speed, and using the pulses for the speed control side of the cruise.

Its a tiny glass switch attached inside the speedo at the rear on the bottom..just under the 100km/h signal switch...it has a ground and a trigger side...cheers

Thanks guys, for the info. I now think it is more to do with the air flow meter, as I have substituted the one off of my RX and it seams to get a bit better. its not really that big a problem gets ok fuel consumption, just annoying. trying to get it engineered so it needs to pass emissions etc.
