no spark ?
no spark ?
hey guys i have just put a rs engine in my car today and im not getting a spark :s
does anyone know how much Volts you should have at the coils cause mine are reading 0.300v not even a volt, i am however getting 5-9 volts at the plugs before the coil packs but not at the coils :S
so can someone try guide me in the right direction ??

I dont quite understand what you are testing
You should not be testing the HT side of the coil (the pointy end that connects to the spark plug). The coil can produce over 20kV and could ruin your multimeter and hurt you.
If you unplug them, on the engine loom side you should have a yellow wire and with the ignition on, there should be 12v to ground.
If you have 12v, then the problem is either the coils, or the ignitor.
It is quite common for the coils to fail, but they normally just miss fire when making boost

okay yes i am making 12v on the engine loom and i was getting 12v at the pointy end of the coil woops lol.Suparoo wrote:I dont quite understand what you are testing

so now i have plugged the spark plug lead back on and put a spark plug on the end and grounded it but still no spark ????
and it has the bosch coil conversion

Ah, that clears it up a little.69terra69 wrote:and it has the bosch coil conversion
So has it previously worked with these coils, or has it stopped since you installed them?
When the ignition is on, the coil has a constant 12v on the primary. (12v at the secondary is normal because the primary and secondary windings are joined on the positive side)
The ECU sends a pulse to the ignitor, which momentarily grounds the negative wire to the coil, which produces the high voltage spark on the secondary side.

i have just bought the engine and it was working fine when i bought it im just trying to get it to sparkSuparoo wrote:Ah, that clears it up a little.

ok so i tested at the back of the coils and on all of them it is 12v at cranking and at primary, but is just not sparking ?
if i plug a spark plug into 1 of the leads and ground on the manifold should it spark ?

Im still a little unclear...
You put an RS engine in your (what im assuming) a non turbo Liberty
The engine (which came with the Bosch coil conversion) was working before you installed it.
Is the ignitor plugged in (small square box mounted behind the boost control solenoid)
It looks similar to this, but it can also be made of plastic

yeah mate all the above are correct and yes the ignitor is plugged in.Suparoo wrote:Im still a little unclear...

and should my injectors be pulsing with the key fully turned but not cranking with the car not started im assuming they are fluiding my engine
