timing belt trouble

G'day all,
Am new to this forum!
Just purchased a 01/01 subaru impreza wagon RX.
It has the ej20 2L single cam motor.200,000km
just done timing belt kit and water pump, now i checked and double checked and lined everything up. started car run the coolant back into it all ok.
But when car reached operating temp it developed a horrible noise from the engine?? rattling n clunking etc, now im paranoid that ive done something wrong? Going to pull covers off and re-check count teeth etc. has anyone out there experienced this problem before? dont want to go any further as i may cause damage??

from what i read they are not an interferance engine, so the valves cant hit the pistons unlike the twin cammers.
need more info on the noise, front, rear, one side, both sides, maybe a spanner in the fan?

Yeh got stuck into it today, re-aligned everything counted teeth again, put it back together. started 1st go and ran fine???? must've been a tooth out or so? any way Im out of the dog box the missus can drive to work tomorrow!! Cheers!!!
