Oil pump won't come off, what am I missing?

Post by BaronVonChickenPants » Sun Mar 12, 2006 4:27 pm

The last time I rebuilt an oil pump was a while ago and I remember it going fairly smoothly, this time I can't seem to get the pump off the engine, I've removed the 4 bolts for the pump and try wiggling, wriggling and prising the pump off the engine with and with out the oil filter but it won't budge, what am I missing.

The gregories book is no help.

It says you need to remove the crank pulley but I know last time I did it with out removing it.

HELP!!!

From memory I had to remove the crank pulley when I did one.

Careful, they do crack easily, one time when Subarino and me were removing one from an old motor we cracked it.

I have 2 spare on dead engines, I'm going to attempt removing those next so if I kill one it's no big deal.

PS: I have way to much crap in my garage.

the chiltons simply says "
loosen tensioner bolts,loosen belt,tighten tensioner.
remove belt.
remove oil pump-to-engine bolts and the oil pump with oil filter from cylinder block"
don't remember exactly what I did, but wouldv't had the crank pulley off anyway.

Woohoo, it's off, practiced on a spare engine, there is only 4 bolts (on the MY's anyway) and you can get it off without removing the crank pulley.

Gently tapping the oil filter till the whole oil pump turns, then just wiggle it cw-ccw while pulling and it comes off.

I'm glad I attempted it because the O-rings were ra-hooted

Thanks for your help guys.
