Brumby headlights

Post by Pommiebrat » Mon Feb 08, 2010 11:56 pm

I have acquired a GL (?) cycolps eye centre fog light and grill to go on my brumby/brat/mv but I can't find the right headlight bezels and corresponding corner lights to fit. The standard 198 ones have the wrong shape where they butt up to the centre grill. I think I need early ('81-'82) shape bezels - they seem to be more diamond-shaped. Does anyone have a part number or know which vehicles had them?

Cheers,

John

some pics of low KB would be of interest. Never seen anything but single rectangular light each side or twin each side, no other light accessory that fits in anywhere else. Have seen an early MY round headlight front added to single headlight brumby looks good

Attached is a picture of what I've got. I've seen pictures from the Hatch patrol of early ea81 model hatches and wagons with the same grills but can't find the correct corner lights anywhere.

I thought about bringing one back with me to aus and was under the impression it would go in easily enough although you need the frame that goes behind the "passing" light! although didn't look into it too much as I gave up on the idea before I found one!
87 targa brumby (Neglected),
92 targa brumby (weekend runabout),
97 Lifted Outback (Dailey drive),
05 outback safety (Too cheap to pass up),
90 model liberty (was to be scrapped instead sold to workmate)
+ others.

You have a 1981 grille. Any 1981 "MY" indicators should fit. Good luck finding some, I recall seeing 1 1981 MY at a wreckers in the past 4 years and that was about 3 years ago. I actually have a decent 1981 grille sitting around here but no indicators :(

Simple rundown (ignoring GL/DL spec, Japanese dates vs AU dates vs USDM dates vs UK dates):

1980 : Single round headlights (1979 in Japan)
1981 : Single rectangular headlights, >=====< grille
1982 : Single or dual rectangular rectangular headlights, straight-through \=====/ grille
1983 : Single or dual rectangular headlights, honeycomb grille

(I know some 1981's came with round headlights, etc - these are approximate year dates to keep it simple)

I'd suggest putting a plea out on usmb as that's about your best option for turning up a donor vehicle - maybe one of the regulars like edrach or barracuda will have something in their parts pile.

Dean,

That is great info. Thanks very much for clarifying that for me - was starting to get very confused as to what I had got my hands on.

Cheers,

John
