Tailshaft rattle in Brumby

Post by Subaru88 » Fri Nov 13, 2009 1:55 pm

G'day ,

My tailshaft makes a rattling noise as I accelarate, at first I thought it was my exhaust (resonator) but after investigating it seem to be definately coming from the tailshaft.

Anyone had the same problem?

the uni joints are stuffed or need to be greased

look for grease nipples other wise look for new uni joints

Most Brumbies that have passed me sound like this, can almost know what it is from the sound as it approaches. As Toonga says you need some new uni joints. Been there , done that before. A good test is to roll down a slight incline with motor off in a stret where the sound can bounce off shop or factory walls

I checked the uni joints for any play and they are rock solid, I guess the internal sliding splines are worn, causing the rattle.

Does any MY series tailshaft bolt straight in or must I find a Brumby shaft??

Thanks again.
