irregular exhaust and egr issue

Post by Tim183 » Mon Aug 10, 2009 8:15 pm

I am looking at buying an L Series subaru wagon, I have one already which i am looking to replace, the one I have looked at and am considering buying has a minor engine problem, however, as an accountant, i really don't understand the problem, or the fix.

Would you be able to offer some guidance???

The seller is telling me it is the EGR valve which is faulty, causing a sort of buzzing sound from the engine, somewhere near where the distributor leads come out and irregular exhaust flow. I have googled around but cant really understand much.

Any help would be appreciated.

ask them if it is the egr which is near the dizzy, to get a replacement and stick it in, when fixed, call you. Should be a cheap fix as a used one would not be all that much, two bolts and a rubber vacuum actuation tube disconnect, reconnect. Not heard what you describe

from memory EGR stands for exhaust gas regulation - so if u think of the definition of that an EGR valve being faulty would cause exhaust problems.

They are quite easy and cheap to install.
