lol, "money aside" I wouldn't agree with me either! :)
But unfortuantely we can't take money out of the equation because you can't get the rear discs for free, and the price people sell them for isn't worth it (in my opinion). Perhaps your rear drums were in worse operational condition than mine were at the time.

1. brake bias in any car should be set 60% front 40% rear if its not there is something wrong with the brake bias controller

2. the drums in any my or L series are highly under powered working or rooted

3. the constant wrrr wrr wrr wrrr noise when braking from slipping drum pads drives me nuts just ask anyone who has driven an older subaru

4. as of Today I have rear disc brake end from an L series wagon being delivered From Perth to Eaton (right near me)next weekend everything needed plus a few extras for $400 dollars

big smile from me

Maybe do some hard stopping tests before/after, that'd be good.

Rear disc rotors are not hard to get new - slotted maybe (but that site may be of use). If you're after stock L rear discs the most important part you need to find is the 4wd hub - this is the difference between the 2wd and 4wd rear discs.

well Ive got the set up I will take photos when I get a chance I've pulled apart one side ( I was given both rear control arms and shocks)

suprisingly enough it all looks really new Im impressed the piston pushed in by hand and sounded fantastic

I didn't think the setup would come off the arm at first but after some gentle nudging with a soft drift the backing plate and accessories came off

my wife wasn't amused with all the noise as our youngest child was asleep

tomorrow afternoon Im going to get the other side off

then Saturday the brumby gets a rear disc brake end

I promise to take pictures and perhaps start a new post somewhere showing how I went about it

Not sure if this is true as I have never tried it but a good friend of mine that used to own a Brake and Clutch place once told me a set of Subaru Ugly (76-79) front brake discs and drive plates could be used to make rear disc setup on the MY or Ls and they have the smaller spline.

I would love it if someone that has parts like the uglies to be able to verify :)

well we used the vortex rear disks on mums L series
i was looking at putting front disks on the rear of mine but need to build a brake box or get a good but cheap brake bias valve
and dads looking at what caliper can be used on the rear of the l without any a bias valve ie same as rx

Spike. Apparently the rear callipers from a skyline will fit/are pretty much the same as the RX ones, except they have a hand brake function too. Disco will know more about it as I remember reading this from one of his posts.

The problem is getting the 4wd rear hub to make the disc mount to the hub. I'd be keen to see what you do here.

As for the old fugly series, I reckon you'd have more chance of finding an RX rear disc setup than a set of fugly front hubs - if it works...

Cheers

factory spec is effective cylinder diameter at 30.93mm for some models 4WD sedan, our Vortex and 33.96 on swedes models, 3 door 4WD turbo , and turbo 4WD wagons. So, essentially unless it is some sort of import 30.93mm
