EA82 Lseries Air Con Woes

Post by enduro » Fri Feb 17, 2006 11:00 am

When I first got my Lseries the air con was so cold that my feet would just about freeze and it would become uncomfortable (outside temp +30deg).

The next summer I noted a significant decresse in performance as I recall. The Aircon seems to stop and start in effectiveness, even at high speed (80km) driving and appears to blow humid air until I turn it off and on again.

At a stand still or low speed or stop start city driving the Aircon loses effectiveness entirely.

Gas was replaced even though the guy said "it didn't need it" and replaced it anyway, he could offer no other suggestions for performeance. Also the compressor (?) was also replaced.

No additional performance or effectiveness was noted. Is is likely that this is an electrical or mechanical problem?

Anyone able to provide tehir opinion or had a silimar experience?

Please post away.

I have the same problem, it doesnt happen all the time but i will switch it on, it will work for a few minutes then it will blow ambient temp air till i switch it off then on again, and the cycle continues. But other times it works fine.

Beats me why it happens :?

Idle the car for a while and watch the aircon compressor. It could be a faulty electrical component somewhere switching the magnetic clutch on and off.

Mine does the same thing. I have been told it is everything from low gas - to faulty TX valve. It does however change characteristics , when it is changed from recirculating to fresh air. Works wonderfull in winter - without a fault - and COLD 8O , but summer  I juggle the recirculate air button and leave it on fresh when it gets cold inside - or it will switch off.

Must have something to do with the thermostat sensor i'd recon at a guess....

I might even try and fix it one day, if I fix everything else that needs fixin as well... :?

It does cut the clutch on the compressor, but does not auto cut back in. maybe a relay not functioning perhaps ??

I get the same thing in my L Series. I put it down to "the nature of the beast"

excuse my ignorance ....

Are you saying that at idle that the compressor should not stop and start (I guess at least for the first few minutes of operation)?

Can anyone add where the thermostat might be located for the Aircon (a poster indicated that one exists)?

Does anyone elses Aircon light appear intermitently and have you noted that it is related to the stopping and starting? I would expect that this is out of the direct circuit and exclusive to the problem.

Thanks guys. If we work together on this it looks like it will help a lot of ppl.
