Help converting Open diff to LSD

Post by Matt » Fri Feb 10, 2006 6:07 pm

Does anyone know what type of bolt the E10 one in a MY/L open diff looks like? does is only bit(i.e threaded part) on the pinion gears and not the Spline? i can seem to find a E10 socket easily and was just going to drill the head off it and pull the spline part out of the way (Subaru didn't even have one). I don't need any of the centre except the crown wheel.

Thanks
Matt

you can try a 7mm(?) 1/4" socket and extension (bre prepared to break them though) the head of the bolt has a tapered fit, you can quite easily drill the heads off.

Or you can get the grinder out a cut away the spline so you can get a standard Torx socket on it and remove it that way. That worked fine for one but the other i still haven't got out even with the process above it is stuck in there, but i managed to get the centre out anyway. Converted it to LSD and put if all back together without to much drama.....
Thanks anyway subgiraffe.
