Hi peoples Im a new Brumby owner on the NW of Tas. I have been talking to a couple of you through the USMB site and Have now finally got access to here. If you guys want I can try and find out in advance what some of the tracks conditions are. Im an ex-west coast boy and still know a fair few people down there.

I would love to be coming with you guys but I cant get time of work and I dont think my road tyres would get me very fair along the tracks.

let me know if I can help in any way.

Cheers Troy "Wombat" Philpott.

G'day Wombat, road tyres and a bad attitude will get you a long way, you just need to use a little more vehicle speed at the start!

Update for the interested.

Slottled the strut towers,
nolathane is in,

Springs are going in tomorrow.
On schedule.

Cheers all,
Matt

27th or the 28th I reckon. Busy boy until then.
Pretty happy with myself.
Measured all the front end and pulled it apart. replaced the bushes and re aligned the strut towers.
Put it all back together and it is dead straight.
perfectly.

the new springs will make me smile.

Where will the conveoy be about the 28th?

gday troy,
Did you recently buy your bus off john at boat harbour? if so i would say its a little to good to take off road, its your call but i'm sure we could go up
the forestry for a spin sometime, plenty more there than the 'skid pan'

but the real challange now that your here will be keeping the ute stock!

as for the convoy on the 28th, not to sure, maybe those with phones could exchange numbers and we will see where we go from there, the scheduling is very open.

also troy, would you know about LPG outlets around the wild west?

LPG is in Strahan definately!
I may well be coming over from the Cradle Moutain road and will have to find the convoy too. I am hoping to do the Granville - Trial Harbour bit.

Yes I did buy my ute of John I must admit it is in bloody excellent cond. I would like to take it off road some time but will need to get some different tyres first.

I have already got the bug to change the Ute.

As far as I know you can only get Gas in Strahan. You used to be able to get it in Zeehan but that servo shut down. I asked a friend in Queenstown and they said that theres none there either. No good with Rosebery or Tullah. Burnie would be the next nearest place or if heading to Hobart it would be Derwent Bridge I couldnt even tell you if you can get it at the Cradle mountain/Moina Servo.

whats the average price of fuel on the island ? devonport and out west there ?
just having a thought of maybe doing a trip down there..never been to the island before..
Not at this 2week period cause its fairly much booked up to inc car+passage.

Hope you boys give us a good report on places to go...

BTW any good 4wd tracks in the Cradle Mtn area, or is it typically Nat.Park but closed tracks? just wondering what might be expected?
Is 1st/2nd week of Feb a good time for travelling down there? Don't like it to be too cold or wet.
Thanks

Bluesteel: you should be able to get ice at any of the pubs down west also some of the shop have it.

Fred-sub: depending on if you want Premium or regular unleaded the prices vary. Any thing from about 1.24 up to 1.39 it also depends on where you are in Tassie. I know I have noticed a difference of 4-5 cents between Rosebery and Tullah (which is less than 20km aparts). Feb would be a good time to come down. But dont be surprised if you get 4 seasons in one day while down here.

I noticed they have a book out with all the 4wd tracks of Tasmania maybe you could find this and have a look at it.

Cheers Wombat.

Johnnie used to have that book
Buggar the gas indeed! I have 750 km range (75km on sand dunes) Strahan will be fine for me.

People better be bringing fishing rods!
I plan on eating the bounty of the sea.

Many good fishing spots where we are going?

Tasbrat: Will you be ready on the 28th? Us Burnie blokes are heading down to trial way on the 27th. I think we should share mob numbers for obvious reasons. Here is mine... 0439 010 021
My_Sti doesn't have a mob fone...slack bastard

Johnny: Whats the go with your small beige boxa crap  when u think thatta be ready by? Gotta get ya socks on now...

Anyone else be commin along??? So far, I think there are 2 MY wagons and a L Series sedan from Burnie way, with 5 or 6 ppl.(was Wombat going to come?? If so thats a Brumby too.) Brumby from Launnie way, and a MY wagon from hobart way. (Don't think I missed anyone :? )

So by the sounds of it so far, looks like it will be an enjoyable trip. and not long to go now.....
Cheers all.

Howdy Adam,
Beach rods would be ideal for the west coast, spinners or lures work well.
I am taking my new 'killer' as well.
(a lightweight Penn spinning rod..shhh don't tell the missus)
Plastic plugs or squidgies are my new vice... they are deadly!
The mouth of the Henty and little Henty are great (World Class) spots to fish.

I am almost ready!
The CIG diff will be a last minute installation, the springs are in, the dual shock front end is going in tonight, the nolathane is in the front,

To do- need to wire up the new thermofan,
- wire up rear spotties,
- install UHF,
- roll the swag and pack the bag!
I will hopefully see you at Trail Harbour, 0400 247754 is the batphone number, text me updated position reports if you wouldn't mind.
I WILL HAVE ICE!
